New Seasons Workers have secured a Union Election

Hillsboro, Oregon – Workers at the Orenco Station New Seasons have secured dates for their
Union Election. Workers will be mailed ballots on August 11th and will have until September 1st
for their votes to be received by the NLRB.

“New Seasons workers are an unrelenting force and UFCW 555 is proud to be their union
home. The workers are united, we have the support of the community, and we are standing
strong in the face of management’s union busting attempts. These workers are leading the way
to a better future.” – Dan Clay, UFCW Local 555 Union President.

This union election comes after a months-long organizing campaign to provide workers at New
Seasons with better benefits, stronger pay, and a more secure retirement. Most importantly,
workers at New Seasons will finally have a true voice in their workplace.

UFCW 555 Files for Union Election at New Seasons

Hillsboro, Oregon – On Friday, May 27, UFCW Local 555 filed for a Union Election at the Hillsboro New Seasons location. Workers reached out to UFCW for assistance in organizing a union at their workplace, following a buy-out by South Korean investors. They are concerned by changes to the company’s culture and business ethics impacting both their working conditions and the wellbeing of the neighborhoods they serve.

“New Seasons started locally, taking their employees’ voices into account. After being sold, New Seasons is no longer a locally-owned neighborhood grocery store as many believe. Workers at the store are organizing for better workplace policies and safety standards, a stronger retirement, and better wages. We are excited to stand with these workers to add New Season’s into our Union family,” said Dan Clay, President, UFCW Local 555.

“As employees, we are expected to make New Seasons Market the “friendliest store in town.” This is hard to maintain with overworked and underappreciated staff. A recently enacted attendance policy has workers more scared than ever to call out, which is problematic given we are still in a global pandemic,” said Shelby Miller, a New Seasons worker. “With a union, we can look forward to a future where we have a voice in store policies, safety, wages, and benefits. Only then will New Seasons Market truly be the “friendliest store in town,” both for its customers and its employees.”
